top What
does the message "timelimit exceeded" mean?
This means there were too many results which matched your query to
return within a reasonable time. To limit the search enter more
details into individual fields (ie telephone number, location).
How
do I search for a fax number?
The detailed result of searches will automatically include Telephone, Facsimile and Mobile telephone numbers where they are available.
How do I know if I am 'logged in' or not?
The words in brackets, to the right of the Login/Logout links on the Search Page are an indication as to who you are currently logged in as.
Normally, this will say 'Agency Name' or 'Public' indicating that you have an Agency Specific or Public view.
If it contains your full name then you are logged in as yourself.

regarding its staff should be available via the Directory. For
example the Department of Health & Human Services have no staff
details available to the public. Some other Agencies have limited
the amount of information available as may be appropriate.
What
Agencies don't display staff contact information in the Public View? Currently
the Department of Health & Human Services, the Department of Police
& Public Safety and the Tasmanian Electoral Office, for business and security reasons do not display
personal staff contact details in the Public view. There are contact
details for roles and business units, or you can contact the Service Tasmania line on 1300 135 513.
My
organisation is not listed in the GDS The
GDS is supported by Telstra as part of the Networking Tasmania Contract
under the bundled LAN (Local Area Network) Service. Telephony (the State
Government telephone system) users are also able to have a basic listing in
the GDS. If
you would like more information regarding who is eligible to become a
Networking Tasmania or Telephony customer please contact DSS on
(03) 6233 7633.
Are there different views in the Government Directory? The Government Directory Service has 3 main views; the Agency view, the Whole of Government view and the Public view.
This allows each Agency, when populating the Directory, to vary the information that is available depending on where the view request comes from.
For example, some Agencies display mobile phone numbers in their Agency view, but not in the Whole of Government or Public views.
The view that you receive is automatically determined by the IP address of your PC. Each Agency registers their allocated IP range with DSS and staff within that range will automatically receive the Agency view.
In some special cases there are restricted views that require a user name and password. In general most people will not require this, however if you believe this is necessary for you, please contact your Agency GDS Administrator to discuss.
How Do I Tell if I'm Getting the Correct View? In the lower left hand corner of the front page of the Directory, there is a toolbar.
If you are using the Directory from your PC at work, then the text in the () should read (your Agency name/acronym Agency). This allows you to receive your Agency view and the Whole of Government view of other Agencies.
If the text reads (Public) then you should contact your Agency IT Section or your GDS Administrator.
I'm
only getting the Public View not my Agency View If you
are only getting the Public View rather than your Agency View there
are some simple steps that you can take to try and solve the problem
yourself.
If this does not work you should contact your Agency IT section
or your Agency GDS Administrator. Where
can I get more assistance with the GDS? If
you would like more information regarding the GDS or are having trouble
using it, you can contact your Agency GDS Administrator. Your
Agency Administrator can be found by doing a search in the
Roles/Resources field for "GDS". You
can also call Service Tasmania on 1300 135 513.
